Twitter IM

Note: Earlier version of Twitter IM stopped due to some changes made by twitter. I have working last night. I have updated the version. Please uninstall earlier versions and download the latest one and install. Thanks :)

When twitter turned off IM, I thought it was only a temporary thing but it seems like its not coming for few more months. So I built the replacement for myself. Its a simple software (windows only) which keeps running in background and sends you twitter updates on gtalk. You can post updates by sending it message. Its completely free for now and next 1000 years, though after that I plan to start charging it ;).

To install it:

Download the installer and install it
You will need an additional gtalk(gmail) account which TwitterIM will use to be online on gtalk and send/recieve messages. So create an account and add your main account as friend on this account
Run twitterIM and it will popup a window. Fill in your twitter login details, extra gtalk account login details and your main gtalk account email id. All password etc are saved on your computer. It does not send any details to me or anybody else.
Send "LAST" over gtalk to your extra gtalk account when its online. If it replies with messages, that means you are done with setup :). Minimize it and keep it running.

Commands - Send over Gtalk to your extra account

OFF - stop sending updates to you on gtalk
ON - start sending updates to you on gtalk (default = on)
SLOW - send only once per hour (when you dont want to be disturbed again and again)
LAST - fetch last 20 messages
POST <message> - post the message to twitter as update
REPLY <reply-to-messageid> <message> - reply to an update with message.

Reply to messages:

itsfrosty (15) : this is me sending message from twitter-im

To reply to above message with "cool" send: "REPLY 15 cool". it will automatically append @username to the message.

If you dont like appending "POST" each time, you can turn it off by unchecking "require post". Now whatever you send to it, if its not a recognized command will be posted to twitter.
